Wooden wheels

We get to work on some really cool stuff from time to time, ok quite frequently. In this case, we had a customer bring us a set of hubs he’s polished fanatically, and a pair of wooden rims (new old stock from 1918ish believe it or not). What follows here are a selection of photos taken of the components being used to assemble the wheels. The process that has to be followed is just as interesting. Brent, our head mechanic and service manager, gets to assemble these wheels and apply a small amount of tension to start, wait a day or so, then add more tension. This process could go on for days as the wood forms into a round wheel (the rims started out of round by a full centimeter).

Trevor’s restoration project

I’ve never seen a bike this old in this high quality and good condition. Trevor’s Grandfather raced this Hobbs bike back in his day. Now it’s Trevor’s turn! Hopefully he’ll bring it in after a new paintjob from Magnum Powdercoat.

Doug Baker’s new Niner

Doug purchased a new Niner EMD 9 frame and fork from us last year. Today he came in to fine tune the fit and have the fork cut. I took the opportunity to take a photo of bike, which came out very nice, and of course the happy rider. Have a great time on your new bike Doug.

Mark Kovicak is a good customer of ours. We like to go a little above and beyond for guys like him. We know he rides a lot and gets caught out after dark, so we added a couple of reflectors to his Surly Karate Monkey. We think it adds a lot to the personality of his bike. Enjoy Mark.
